Favorite Stuco Event: Warmth for Winter Drive

This Winter Student Council did a warmth clothing drive called Warmth for Winter. Everyone donated clothes and the stuco counted the points. Each item of clothing had a specific number of points. The class who had the most points at the end of the week got a pizza party as a prize. The response from the students was tremendous. Seventh and Second grade stood out and brought in the most clothes for each building and won a pizza party. Our outrageously successful clothing drive supplied the St. Vincent de Paul Society with 17+ large bags of winter clothing and lots of love from St. Roch School.

Science Fair Facts

Every year, the seventh and eighth graders of St. Roch do a science project. This project usually takes about 3-4 months, and it is very difficult. Once the students are done, they are judged by a series of parents and supporters of the St. Roch community. It is quite the achievement when a student receives a blue ribbon, because that is very difficult to do. The top five students in each class go on to compete at Queeny Park’s Science Fair program, which is even more difficult.

6th Grade Thanksgiving Play

This year the 6th graders put on a Thanksgiving play for the whole school. It was called “The Turkeys go on Strike”. Shaun O’Leary and Melissa Miller worked very hard to prepare the kids for their performance. The play was about the true meaning of Thanksgiving which is being thankful for the people that make you happy. The kids can’t wait to perform again in 8th grade.

Congratulations to all the students who achieved honor roll status. Keep up the hard work!

Life 101 by the 8th Grade

The 8th graders put on the annual Christmas play this year. Our play, Life 101, by Willyn Webb was about Jesus in heaven getting ready to be born and go down to earth. Throughout the play, Jesus goes back to school and learns all his most important lessons he learned over time. Jesus goes back to preschool, middle school, and high school, learning from various bible characters important life lessons. This play allowed our class to work together and grow closer.

Buddies

One of the things St. Roch is great at doing is getting everyone to interact with each other. One way we do that if through the buddy system. 8th grade is paired with kindergarten, 7th is paired with 1st grade, and 6th is paired with pre-k 2. For us older kids, it’s a way to spend time with the lower grades and to teach them new things and have fun with them. For the lower grades, it’s their chance to learn from the older kids and to catch a glimpse of what their later years of St. Roch will be like.

Some activities we do with our buddies are reading books, making crafts and playing games. We sometimes go on field trips like a simple walk or to the pumpkin patch! You got really close with your buddy throughout the 9 months that you are at St. Roch. Buddies will talk to each other a lot whether it’s a simple “Hi” in the hallway or a special buddy activity. The St. Roch buddy tradition has really helped me grow in the St. Roch Community! I have been here since preschool and I can remember every single one of my buddies and all the fun we had.
